Note: There is confusion about Abner Newman and the other Newman brothers in the Revolutionary War. We believe Abner is related to these Newmans, but is not the son of Thomas Newman and Elizabeth Morton. Some published writings say that Abner went to identify his brothers that died during the war. We have not seen that stated in depositions about estates and pensions. Two brothers did die in battle and Abner did identify them. But it was an assumption authors made that Abner was the brother of the two brothers that died. Also, the sons of Thomas Newman and Elizabeth Morton reference each other on wills, but none of them claim Abner as a brother, even on a will listing brothers that Abner witnessed. More discussion will be shared about Abner and these records. We are still searching to see where Abner actually fits in with the Newmans in Culpeper and Orange County, Virginia.
